As a widely known gateway international city, Narita-city is functioning with Narita International airport, the busiest international airport in Japan.
FUWARI ART FOREST is working on contemporary art part in this international airport area.

Staging the international airport as a platform of art encourages many artists traveling to and from worldwide cities. We are creating an art district in this convenient filed where beautiful nature and culture are living with. This is the main part of FUWARI ART FOREST.

*FUWARI ART FOREST is English name of Japanese “ふわりの森” pronounced as FUWARI NO MORI.

This project is directed by artist instead of local authority.
We have started it from artist-run space, and expanded to public art, and now reached land art.
FUWRI ART FOREST director is a Japanese artist, YUSUKE SHIMURA. He is organizing the project together with the local authority.

FUWARI ART FOREST provides artist in residence facility called “FAIR/Fuwari no mori Artist In Residence” in the main area. Invitation to FAIR is sent to both international and domestic artists to have them stay relaxed and collaborate on a variety of projects such as creating public artwork, teaching children as official substitute teacher in public school, artist talk in weekend cafe, and hosting an art festival called FUWARI NO MORI ARTPARADE in the international airport area.

Our art exhibitions are dotted in this art district, and we called it as a museum.

FUWARI ART FOREST is looking for both domestic and international artist on fire!
The invitation is sent every year based on the recommendation of FUWARI ART FOREST director YUSUKE SHIMURA, and/or museum, gallery, also artist.
The invited artist will receive full support such as air ticket, residence, studio, material, introduction to Japanese media for your artwork creation on site.
Any artist without the invitation is also welcome to rent the studio and residence weekly or monthly.
